FRAME STORY
Most of the traffic to this site comes from searches for the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes that I’ve written about. So, in line with your googling, this blog just got a makeover. With food as the newfound protagonist, the blog’s title is now “1001 Feasts,” which is a takeoff of A Thousand and One Nights (كتاب ألف ليلة وليلة), a collection of medieval and ancient folk tales compiled during the Abbasid Caliphate.
In line with the epic work, “1001 Feasts” will serve as a collection of stories. The tales will include anecdotes about people and their relationship to food, stories about food culture as well as descriptions of feasts and festivals from the meager to the lavish. And since the overriding theme of this blog is food, you can expect to find lots of recipes, from traditional ones to the Sicilian/Mediterranean-inspired dishes that I serve at Eolo.
I am a classically trained cook, writer-in-training at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and a seasoned gastronomist, specializing in the diverse cuisines of the Mediterranean region. For more info on my background, visit my website:
And to try out my dishes first hand, visit me at Eolo, Sicilia a Tavola, located at 190 Seventh Avenue at 21st Street in Manhattan. I like to think of Eolo as my love letter to the region to Sicily.
